Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

Moutet rescued four early-game chances in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
